Anthony, who scored 22 points in the first quarter, left the game at the 6:33 mark of the third quarter when he fell awkwardly on his ankle after a hard foul by Lakers center Dwight Howard.

“When I saw him (Anthony) go down I just wanted him to get up,” Knicks guard Jason Kidd said. “But we had to go without him and the guys just stuck together.”

As for the Lakers (9-14), Kobe Bryant’s 31 points weren’t enough as they lost their fourth straight game.

“This is just a team that doesn’t really have any stability,” Bryant said. “There is no real sense of purpose in what we want to do. At this point I wish we had the Washington Generals on our schedule.”

The Lakers play next on Friday night in Washington against the Wizards, while the Knicks take on the Cleveland Cavaliers Saturday.
