Kyuji Fujikawa Agrees to Deal With Cubs
Published at(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a two-year, $9 million deal with a vesting option for 2015 with Japanese pitcher Kyuji Fujikawa, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The Cubs will introduce Fujikawa at a news conference that will be held at Wrigley Field Friday at 11:30 a.m. CT.
The 32-year-old Fujikawa has compiled 220 saves and a 1.77 ERA in 12 seasons for the Hanshin Tigers.
Despite his success as a closer in Japan, Fujikawa is not expected to close, at least at first, in Chicago. Carlos Marmol, who has struggled with control but is third all-time in saves for the Cubs with 115, holds the role for now.
