George Doyle/Stockbyte/Thinkstock(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) — Memorial services were held Sunday afternoon in upstate New York for one of the firefighters killed in an ambush on Christmas Eve.

Mourners gathered near Rochester to remember 43-year-old Lieutenant Mike Chiapperini, a volunteer firefighter in West Webster, New York, who was also a 20-year veteran of the Webster Police Department. Chiapperini was killed, along with colleague Tomasz Kaczowka, early Christmas Eve morning when an ex-convict started a fire and shot the men as they arrived to the scene before taking his own life.

Kaczowka’s funeral is set for Monday.
