Punter Will Hagerup, senior linebacker Brandin Hawthorne, and starting senior cornerback J.T. Floyd were suspended for violating team rules.

The Wolverines head into the New Year’s Day game against South Carolina at 8-4, ranked No. 11 in total defense and No. 80 in total offense, which could cost them with the loss of two defensive players.

“It is an honor to play football for the University of Michigan and we have high standards and expectations for everyone that represents our program,” Michigan coach Brady Hoke said in a statement. “These young men used poor judgment in each circumstance, and these suspensions are teaching moments for our team.”

The Gamecocks are 10-2 and come into the Outback Bowl having won four straight games. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
