Nelson Mandela Still in Hospital, May Not Leave Soon

Leon Neal/AFP/Getty Images(JOHANNESBURG) — Former South African President Nelson Mandela may not be leaving the hospital any time soon, according to the latest statement from government officials.
The 94-year-old anti-apartheid hero has been hospitalized for nearly two weeks now for a lung infection and a surgery to remove gallstones.
Presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj, who visited Mandela on Tuesday, said he is looking “much better.” But President Jacob Zuma added that doctors are in no hurry to send Mandela home.
“We urge the public to continue supporting Madiba, but at the same time to understand that he is 94 years old and needs extra-ordinary care. If he spends more days in hospital, it is because that necessary care is being provided,” Zuma said.
