The Nets are 3-10 in the last 13 games and are currently holding on to the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

“The Nets ownership would like to express thanks to Avery for his efforts and to wish him every success in the future,” Nets’ principal owner Mikhail Prokhorov said in a statement.

Johnson was in the final year of his contract and has been with the team since June 15, 2010.  Johnson was 60-116 in more than two seasons with the Nets.

In their first season at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the Nets are 9-7 at home and 5-7 on the road and have dropped their last two games at home.

P.J. Carlesimo, who was serving as the assistant head coach, will take over as interim head coach.
