Newtown, Conn., Police Get Christmas Day Off in Wake of Tragedy
Published at(NEWTOWN, Conn.) — Police departments across Connecticut are making sure that no Newtown officer has to work Christmas Day after the Dec. 14 school shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead.
Out-of-town officers are filling in to make sure Newtown police personnel get to spend the holiday with their families.
These have been wrenching times for those first on the scene at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The police chief said officers drill for an active shooter situation, but never plan to deal with situations that involve children.
