(SAN ANTONIO, TX) — David Ash tossed two late touchdown passes to give No. 23 Texas a stunning 31-27 comeback victory over No. 13 Oregon State in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
Texas (9-4) never led before Ash connected with receiver Marquise Goodwin on a 36-yard touchdown with 2:24 left, just one play after they converted a fourth-and-1 to keep their chances of winning alive.
Running back Storm Woods ran for 118 yards and scored two touchdows for Oregon State (9-4), who narrowly missed their chance of wrapping up their first 10-win season since 2006.
The Beavers led 20-10 at halftime but Texas coach Mack Brown told his players in the locker room that they were going to win the game.
“I told them this it wasn’t going to be easy, but I told them this game was ours and we would win it,” Brown said. “This one is really special.”
The Longhorn defense sacked Oregon State quarterback Cody Vaz 10 times, including one on fourth down with 1:30 left to seal the victory.
