The 24-year-old Harvin hasn’t played in a NFL game since Nov. 4 in Seattle, when a defender rolled on and sprained Harvin’s left ankle in the third quarter. Since then he has tried multiple times to return but had continued difficulty cutting and pushing off his left side.

Harvin, who is in his fourth year in the NFL, finishes the season with 62 catches for 677 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 96 yards on 22 attempts and returned a kickoff 105-yards for a touchdown versus NFC North rival Detroit.

The Vikings will continue to rely on receivers Devin Aromashodu, Jerome Simpson and Michael Jenkins as well as tight end Kyle Rudolph to handle the receiving duties with Harvin out.
