Pit-9 Facility Used for Cleanup Project

  Published at

(IDAHO FALLS) – Officials at the Idaho National Laboratory have announced that the facility over Pit-9 has been repurposed and will be used to treat nuclear waste left over from the Cold War.

KIDK reports more than 6,000 drums of sludge and liquid waste from nuclear weapons will be treated. Workers will use a state-of-the-art filtration system that will allow them to safely work with the material.

The project will be completed by the spring of 2014.
