The deal also includes a vesting/club option for 2015.

“I felt this is a very good opportunity for myself,” Adams said. “I had an opportunity to go a couple places and close and the opportunity to make the extra incentives. There was an NL East team that was really in on it. It was a tough choice between the two, but from what I’ve heard from other players that have been in this organization, what they thought about it, where I think they’re headed over the next couple years, that played a huge part into my decision.”

The 34-year-old Adams has been used primarily as a setup man throughout his career. That is the role he is expected to have in Philadelphia where he will back up Jonathan Paplebon. Adams went 5-3 with a 3.27 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP last season with the Texas Rangers.

In October he had surgery to relieve Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, a condition that caused a numbing sensation in Adams fingers. He is expected to be healthy for spring training.

In his eight-year major league career, Adams has 136 Holds to go along with a 2.28 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.
