(BOSTON) — The Boston Red Sox held a news conference on Wednesday to welcome starting pitcher Ryan Dempster to New England.
The Red Sox and the 35-year-old Dempster agreed to a two-year contract worth $26.5 million. He will receive $13.25 million per year with the opportunity to earn an additional $250,000 for each season he pitches 190 innings or more.
“The Red Sox were extremely gracious and kind of had that feeling they wanted me as much as anybody out there,” Dempster said.
The right-hander spent last season with the Chicago Cubs and the Texas Rangers in which he went 12-8 with a 3.38 ERA.
