(BOSTON) — The Boston Red Sox introduced shortstop Stephen Drew to the media on Thursday.
The former first-round draft pick signed a one-year deal with the Bosox Wednesday, worth $9.5 million according to ESPN. Drew will have a chance to earn an additional $500,000 in performance bonuses.
“I think I am a good fit in Boston,” Drew said in a conference call with the media. “It’s going to be fun playing with [Dustin] Pedroia. I’ve played against him, but to actually play with a good second baseman is going to be a really good opportunity for me.”
The 29-year-old Drew played for the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Oakland Athletics last season, batting .223 with seven home runs and 28 RBIs in 79 games. He didn’t play until June 27 due to a fractured right ankle.
