Head coach Mike Shanahan announced that Griffin has a Grade 1 LCL tear in his knee after injuring it in the team’s 31-28 overtime win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Grade 1 indicates that the sprain is mild in nature.

Looking forward, the team isn’t sure if Griffin will play next week against the Cleveland Browns. “You’re hoping with rehab it gets better very quickly,” Shanahan said. “But we don’t know for sure… He’s definitely not ruled out for the Cleveland game.”

Griffin has led the Redskins to four straight wins and has them in the playoff hunt after a 3-6 start. He also leads the league in passer rating as a rookie.

Kirk Cousins stepped in for Griffin after the injury and would be the starter if the No. 2 overall pick cannot play against the Browns.
