The second-year defensive back out of Stanford went to St. Louis last Friday to have his case heard, and Thursday Sherman had the four-game suspension he was set to receive overturned.

In Sherman’s appeal, it was argued that the chain of custody had been violated for a fair test. Sherman said during his drug test, the cup with his urine sample leaked so the tester transferred the specimen to a second cup, which had a broken seal. Sherman challenged that the second cup violated the chain of custody.

“It was joy and a relief,” Sherman said in an interview on the SVP & Russillo show on ESPN Radio when talking about winning his appeal. “I was happy to finally get my name cleared. It’s always a nerve-racking time going through something like this. Even when you didn’t do it you have your name getting slammed through the mud when you’ve done nothing wrong.”

The six-foot-three Sherman has been a big part of the Seahawks (10-5) success this season. He has 61 tackles, seven interceptions, three forced fumbles and two touchdowns for the year.
