(POCATELLO) – Pocatello Police are advising residents about a credit card skimming device that was found at an area gas station.
Local News 8 reports the device makes duplicate credit card readings and then holds the information in a memory card, enabling criminals to steal personal information. Fortunately the skimmer was not properly installed and no information was stolen.
Officials did not disclose the name of the gas station, but whoever installed the device had to access the internal workings of the pump.
They believe similar incidents may be occurring in Utah.
