Teacher Campaigns Against ‘R-Word’
Published at(POCATELLO) – An Irving Middle School teacher is on a campaign to end the use of a derogatory term that’s tossed around far too often.
Lisa Baker tells Local News 8 the word “retard” needs to be struck from the region’s vernacular, especially among young people. She says ending the “R-word” will show sensitivity to those with varying degrees of disabilities.
Baker has started a petition to raise awareness and stop the misuse of the term in certain situations.
