According to ESPN, Jones signed a six-year contract with the school on Friday. He has resigned his position at Cincinnati effective immediately.

“I would love to thank Butch Jones for hsi time at the University of Cincinatti,” athletic director Whit Babcock said in a news release. “With that said, we are excited about the future of this program and this job will be extremely attractive nationally. Our search will begin immediately.”

Jones will succeed the recently departed Derek Dooley, who was recently fired after going 15-21 in three seasons in Knoxville. Under Dooley, Tennessee posted three-straight losing seasons for the first time since 1909-1911.

In six seasons as a head coach, Jones has gone 50-27. He went 27-13 in three seasons at Central Michigan and 23-14 at Cincinnati.
