“The Hobbit” Repeats as Box Office Champ with $36.7 Million
Published at(NEW YORK) — The Hobbit’s adventures as box office champ will continue for at least another week.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was number one for the second straight weekend, earning an estimated $36.7 million. It has made close to $150 million at the domestic box office to date.
The Tom Cruise thriller Jack Reacher opened in second place, collecting $15.6 million.
This Is 40 rounded out the top three, with a $12 million debut, while another comedy, Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand’s The Guilt Trip, bowed in the sixth spot, with $5.4 million.
These films will face plenty more competition on Tuesday — Christmas Day — when three movies open: Django Unchained, Les Miserables and Parental Guidance.
