Anderson’s son, Jamie Anderson, made the announcement on his website Wednesday, writing that his father “died peacefully in his sleep.”

Anderson’s shows often featured superhero and villain puppets on strings, a technique that he dubbed “supermarionation.” His other credits include Captain Scarlet, Joe 90 and the live-action sci-fi series Space: 1999.

Anderson had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease in recent years.
