Tommy Tuberville Leaves Texas Tech For Cincinnati
Published at(CINCINNATI) — The Cincinnati Bearcats announced that they have hired Texas Tech’s Tommy Tuberville as their next head coach.
The move came one day after coach Butch Jones left to become the head coach at Tennessee.
Tuberville went 20-17 in three seasons at Texas Tech after previously coaching at Auburn and Mississippi. They went 7-5 this season and will play Minnesota in the Meineke Car Care Bowl
Cincinnati finished the 2012 season with a 9-3 record and a share of the Big East title. They are scheduled to play in the Belk Bowl this year.
Tuberville will coach a Cincinnati team that has lost three consecutive head coaches to bigger programs. Brian Kelly left for Notre Dame, Mark Dantonio for Michigan State, and Jones for Tennessee respectively.
He will bring a high-scoring offense to the Cincinnati. The Red Raiders ranked second nationally with 361.9 passing yards per game this season.
