(AMERICAN FALLS, ID)  —  Two Pocatello men had to be rescued last Saturday when the canoe they were in capsized and they were stranded on the Snake River near the Duck point area.  Power County dispatch received a 9-1-1 call around noon alerting first responders to the men in the water.    Power county EMS, Search & Rescue, American Falls Police, Power County Sheriff’s deputies and a federal Fish & Wildlife officer, responded to the area to assist with the rescue.

After being pulled to safety, Michael Jones was airlifted to Portneuf Medical Center while Norman Davis and another member of their hunting party, Thomas Jones, were transported by ambulance to the Power County hospital where they were treated and released.  Michael Jones remains at Portneuf Medical Center.  Neither man was using a life preserver at the time of the accident.  Weather was a contributing factor to the the mishap.

Heroic efforts by the one Fish & Wildlife officer, who pulled the men to safety, may have saved their lives.
