(EL PASO, Texas) — USC senior quarterback Matt Barkley has been ruled out for Monday’s showdown against Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl. Trojans head coach Lane Kiffin made the announcement on Thursday.
“Matt really wanted to play in the game,” Kiffin said. “He was very close to being able to play. Unfortunately for him, our doctors have decided against it.”
Barkley hasn’t played since injuring his throwing shoulder against UCLA on Saturday, Nov. 19.
The Trojans started the season as the No. 1 team in the country, but were unable to stay on top, ending the regular season at 7-5.
In 11 games this year, the 22-year-old Barkley tossed for 3,273 yards along with 36 touchdowns against 15 interceptions.
