Woman Who Gunned Down American in Kabul Described as ‘Unstable’

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(KABUL, Afghanistan) — Afghan officials said on Tuesday that a policewoman who gunned down an American consultant in Kabul earlier in the week had previously shown “unstable behavior.”
However, Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi added there was no proof that the assailant identified as “Sergeant Nargas” had any militant ties.
The shooting of 49-year-old Joseph Griffin of Mansfield, Ga., was believed to be the first such “insider” attack by a woman on an ally during the 11-year Afghanistan war. More than 60 Americans and coalition members have died this year as a result of similar assaults.
Sediqi revealed that Nargas was an Iranian who came to Afghanistan a decade ago, and that she acquired a fake I.D. through her spouse.
Apprehended without incident on Monday, Nargas was confused and weeping while interrogated by investigators.
