(BOISE) – Zoo Boise is boosting security measures after a burglar beat one of the zoo’s monkeys to death last month.
The city’s Parks and Recreation Department recently added razor wire to some parts of the zoo’s barrier system.
Michael Watkins has been charged with felony burglary for his role in a Nov. 17 incident that left a monkey dead. Watkins claims the monkey bit him when he jumped into its cage to steal it, prompting him to attack it with a tree branch.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday.
