The 49ers came back from 17-point deficit to beat the Atlanta Falcons 28-24 on Sunday in the NFC Championship game to clinch a trip to the Super Bowl.

It was the largest comeback that lead to victory in NFC championship game history.

Down 17-0 in the second quarter, San Francisco made their march back. They cut the lead to three after a four-yard touchdown pass from Colin Kaepernick to Vernon Davis in the second quarter. However, the Falcons upped the lead to 10 after a Tony Gonzalez touchdown with less than a minute before the half.

Frank Gore’s 5-yard run cut the lead to 24-21 in the third quarter, but teams traded turnovers until the fourth. Then, a 38-yard drive resulted in another Gore touchdown to give the Niners a fourth quarter lead they would not relinquish.

The Falcons did get the ball back with six seconds left, but could not get down the field for a touchdown.
