Apple Stops “Endgame: Syria” Before It Starts
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — Gamers can’t play the Syrian conflict on their smart phones, Apple has determined.
Reasoning that the ongoing war between government and rebel forces is a “real entity,” Apple’s App Store has put the kibosh on Endgame: Syria.
United Kingdom-based developer Auroch Digital has pushed for the game to broaden the concept of the medium by introducing socially relevant topics.
Auroch Digital’s creative director, Tomas Rawlings, says he understands why Endgame: Syria might make people uncomfortable but adds, “As a game designer I’m interested in the situation [in Syria] and I want to explore it, and the medium that’s natural for me to explore it in is via a game.”
However, Apple decided to reject Endgame: Syria, explaining none of the games it offers should “solely target a specific race, culture, a real government or corporation, or any other real entity.”
