“Argo,” Ben Affleck Among Winners at Critics’ Choice Movie Awards
Published at(SANTA MONICA, Calif.) — Ben Affleck has a sense of humor about the fact that he was not included in the Oscars’ best-director race.
He referenced the snub Thursday night at The 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, just hours after the Oscar nominations were announced.
While accepting the award for best director for his work on Argo, Affleck joked, “I would like to thank the Academy.”
After some laughter from the audience, Affleck continued, “Just kidding, this is the one that counts.”
His film was named best picture at the end of the ceremony, which was presented by the Broadcast Film Critics Association. It aired live from Santa Monica, Calif., on the CW.
Lincoln star Daniel Day-Lewis received the prize for best actor, and Zero Dark Thirty’s Jessica Chastain was given the award for best actress.
Silver Linings Playbook won several honors, including best acting ensemble, best actress in a comedy for Jennifer Lawrence, and best actor in a comedy for Bradley Cooper.
