She’s taking on the role of the late Hollywood “superagent” Sue Mengers in the play I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat with Sue Mengers.

The play tells the story of Mengers, who came from near poverty as a refugee from Hitler’s Germany. She worked her way up through pluck, charm, and a legendary wit to reach the top of the male-dominated world of talent agents. Becoming the first female “superagent,” Mengers worked for agencies such as I.C.M. and William Morris. Her roster of clients included Barbra Streisand, Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway and Michael Caine.

Midler made her Broadway debut decades ago in the chorus of Fiddler on the Roof. Her other stage work includes the Tony Award-winning Clams on the Half Shell, Experience the Divine.

I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat with Sue Mengers, is by playwright John Logan, whose credits include co-writing the latest James Bond film, Sykfall. The play is scheduled to open April 24, at a Broadway theater yet to be determined.
