Bill O’Brien to Stay at Penn State
Published at(NEW YORK) — Penn State won’t need to look for a new coach after all.
Coach Bill O’Brien announced that he will stay with the Nittany Lions after spurning advances from several NFL teams.
“I’m not a one-and-done guy,” O’Brien told pennlive.com on Thursday. “I made a commitment to these players at Penn State and that’s what I am going to do. I’m not gonna cut and run after one year. That’s for sure.”
O’Brien had interviewed with the Cleveland Browns earlier this week, and was said to be receiving interest from the Philadelpia Eagles and San Diego Chargers.
In his first season at Penn State, O’Brien led the team to an 8-4 record and six Big 10 wins. He won coach of the year in the conference.
O’Brien has previous NFL experience as the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots.
