Paul Nordmann/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — The Milwaukee Brewers’ offense has already taken a major hit before the season has even started. The team announced that first baseman Corey Hart will miss 3-4 months because of a knee injury that will require surgery.

During offseason workouts, Hart’s knee started to swell up. An MRI revealed a torn meniscus as well as other damage that will need time to repair. Hart will have knee surgery on Tuesday.

The 30-year old Hart is entering the last year of his contract, so the timing could not have been worse for the former All-Star.

In 2012, Hart batted .270 with 30 home runs while driving in 83 runs.

Replacing Hart will likely be Mat Gammel. In 2012, Gamel was supposed to show that he can be a consistent hitter at the Major League level. Instead, he tore his ACL just 21 games into the season.
