“Broken City,” “The Last Stand,” “Mama” Open Nationwide

Broken City: An ex-cop is hired by a corrupt New York mayor to investigate the mayor’s wife, who is suspected of having an affair.  However, he soon realizes that he’s been double-crossed by the politician.  Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones star.  Rated R.

The Last Stand: Arnold Schwarzenegger is a sheriff in a border town who lends a hand to authorities trying to capture a drug kingpin headed for Mexico.  Johnny Knoxville and Forest Whitaker also star.  Rated R.  [Click here to read a review]

Mama: Two young sisters are found, five years after their parents died and the girls went missing.  However, something’s amiss with the kids as they begin living with their uncle and his girlfriend.  Zero Dark Thirty’s Jessica Chastain stars in this horror film.  Rated PG-13.

And expanding into wide release:

Silver Linings Playbook: The Oscar contender for best picture stars Bradley Cooper as a man who leaves a mental institution, moves back in with his parents, and meets a woman — Jennifer Lawrence’s character — with her own set of personal problems.  Cooper, Lawrence and co-stars Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver all received acting nods for next month’s Academy Awards.  Rated R.
