His publicist Erik Kritzer tells ABC News Radio that Reynolds’ fever has gone down and he was released from the hospital on Tuesday.  The 76-year-old actor had been in the intensive care unit.

Reynolds spent nearly 15 years as a TV character actor before rising to movie fame with 1972′s Deliverance.  He’s since appeared in dozens of films, including Smokey and the Bandit, Gunsmoke, The Cannonball Run and Boogie Nights, the latter of which earned him an Oscar nomination.

He also starred in the 1990s sitcom Evening Shade and, more recently, he appeared in the 2011 television movie Reel Love with country singer LeAnn Rimes.
