NFL? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1359475644657National Football League(NEW YORK) — It has been quite a turnaround for the Indianapolis Colts and general manager Ryan Grigson oversaw it all. For his efforts, Grigson has won the Sporting News Executive of the Year.

The Colts went 2-14 in 2012 and was the worst team in the NFL. In Grigson’s first year in control of the club, the team went 11-5 and made the playoffs in the first year of the post-Peyton Manning era.

“It’s truly an honor to be recognized for this award and I’m thankful to all my peers who considered me for this accolade,” Grigson said in a statement. “Our success this season encompassed the entire organization, including the unwavering support from Mr. Irsay, the dedication of the entire scouting department, the leadership of the coaching staff and the gutsy performance of our players week in and week out.”

The Colts were able to land quarterback Andrew Luck with the number one overall pick in this past year’s draft. He threw for a rookie record 4,374 yards.

Along with the success of Luck, the team was able to rally around their head coach Chuck Pagano, who missed a chunk of the season after being diagnosed with Leukemia.
