Investigators tell ABC News they believe Armstrong was clearly lying when he appeared in a taped interview Thursday night on OWN.

The big lie in Thursday night’s airing, they say, was when Armstrong told Oprah he stopped doping in 2005.  The investigators believe his blood values at the 2009 Tour de France indicate clear blood manipulation.

Why would he lie about his 2009 actions?  Investigators say to protect himself; it’s recent enough that Armstrong could face criminal prosecution, whereas his actions in 2005 exceed the statute of limitations.

In a statement, the World Anti-Doping Agency said, “If Mr. Armstrong truly wants to make amends for his doping past, then he needs to make a full confession under oath to the relevant anti-doping authorities.

“He must make a sworn statement that reveals the full truth and contains information that will assist the fight against doping in sport,” the agency’s statement said.
