Environmental Group Buys Hoback Oil Leases
Published at(JACKSON, Wyo.) – An environmental group is buying more than 58,000 acres of oil leases in the Upper Hoback Basin in western Wyoming.
The Trust for Public Land raised nearly $9 million for the project, which purchased the land from the Plains Exploration and Production Company.
Officials say they worked for nearly a decade to raise the funds. The trust will retire all of the oil and gas leases in the acreage to ensure a safer habitat for the region’s wildlife.
