“Honey Boo Boo’s” ‘Uncle Poodle’ Reveals He Is HIV Positive

TLC(NEW YORK) — Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’s Uncle Poodle, whose real name is Lee Thomson, has revealed in an interview that he was diagnosed HIV positive last year.
Thompson, who is the openly gay brother of little Alana’s father, Sugar Bear, told the Atlanta magazine Fenuxe how he contracted HIV.
Thompson said he got checked regularly for HIV and in May of 2012, he learned his test results had come back positive.
“I knew it had been my boyfriend who infected me. I later learned he had been HIV positive and was not taking medication and had not bothered to tell me about it. I was advised that I should press charges and, hesitantly, I did. It was the right thing to do,” Thompson said.
Thompson’s now ex-boyfriend is serving a five-year jail sentence for infecting him.
Thompson’s advice for anyone not practicing safe sex is simple. He said, “They are damn fools! They are playing Russian roulette; they are playing with their lives and that of their sexual partners.”
