(CLEVELAND) — After designating him for assignment Dec. 18, the Cleveland Indians reclaimed infielder Russ Canzler off waivers from Toronto.
Canzler played most of last season for the Indians Triple-A club in Columbus before being called up to the big leagues in September. He hit .271 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 93 at bats for the Indians.
As of now, the 26-year-old is the top candidate to start the season as the Indians designated hitter.
To make room for Canzler, pitcher Jeanmar Gonzalez was designated for assignment.
