This continues the house cleaning by the Jets. The team recently let go of general manager Mike Tannenbaum, and yesterday they fired quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh.

The Jets suffered another disappointing season in 2012. They went just 6-10, and were tied for last place in the AFC East.

Sparano, who previously was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, was supposed to fix the team’s poor offense. That never materialized as the team’s offense was just as poor as last year. Under Sparano, the Jets ranked 30th out of 32 NFL teams in total offense. They also ranked 30th in the NFL in passing yards per game, and 12th in rushing yards per game.

Starting quarterback Mark Sanchez also failed to take the “next step” in his fourth year under center. His completion percentage, passing yards, touchdowns, and passer rating all regressed in 2012.
