Musial batted .331 with 3,630 hits and 475 home runs in 22 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, winning seven batting titles and three MVP awards.

He led the Cardinals to three World Series championships in the 1940s.  The team announced his death in a press release, saying he died at his home surrounded by his family.

“We have lost the most beloved member of the Cardinals family,” said William DeWitt Jr., Chairman of the St. Louis Cardinals.  “Stan Musial was the greatest player in Cardinals history and one of the best players in the history of baseball.”

There are two statues of Musial outside Busch Stadium in St. Louis as Musial spent his entire career with the Cardinals.  He was a 24-time All-Star as well.

He was inducted into Cooperstown as a first-ballot Hall-Of-Famer in 1969.
