MLB Season To Kick Off March 31

Mike McGinnis/Getty Images(NEW YORK) --  Major League Baseball announced that the 2013 season will kickoff on Sunday March 31 when the Houston Astros play host to the Texas Rangers.

The game will serve as the Astros' debut in the American League and also the first time the in-state rivals will play each other to open a season.

It will take place on ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" at Minute Maid Park in Houston at 8 p.m. ET.

The teams' move to the AL now gives each league 15 teams.  They will play in the West division along with the Rangers, Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics, and Los Angeles Angels.

The teams will have a day off on Monday April 1 before finishing the three-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday of that week.
