Nash joins John Stockton (15,806), Jason Kidd (11,969), Mark Jackson (10,334) and Magic Johnson (10,141) as the only others to do it.

Nash recorded the assist with 29.1 seconds left in the second quarter when he found Antawn Jamison for a layup.

Despite reaching the marvelous milestone, Nash seemed more concerned about the Lakers (15-19), who have lost five out of their last six games.

“I don’t want to discredit it,” Nash said. “I don’t want to not appreciate the company I share in this milestone. But right now, that’s the farthest thing from my mind. I’m just trying to find a way to win one game.”

Teammate Kobe Bryant was more upbeat about the feat.

“That’s incredible,” Bryant said. “You should kind of step back and look at the big picture of what he’s done. What, five players have done that? That’s amazing to come where he’s come from and to be able to accomplish that. You can’t lose sight of what that number means.”

Nash is averaging 8.9 assists per game this season.
