NHL Suspends Islanders Colin McDonald Two Games
Published at(NEW YORK) — New York Islanders forward Colin McDonald was suspended two games by the NHL Wednesday, for boarding Penguins defenseman Ben Lovejoy in the Islanders 4-1 win over Pittsburgh Tuesday.
The 28-year-old McDonald will lose $7,567.56 in game pay.
“The key factor for us elevating this penalty to a suspension are a combination of the length of time that McDonald sees Lovejoy’s numbers and the degree of force with which McDonald hits right through his opponent,” NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan said in his explanatory video.
Lovejoy was not injured on the play.
McDonald, who has no previous disciplinary history, has two points and 19 penalty minutes for the Islanders (3-2-1) this season.
