(LOUISVILLE, KY) — The number one team in the nation has gone down for the second-straight week as No. 6 Syracuse marched into Louisville and knocked off the top-ranked Cardinals 70-68.
Brandon Triche led Syracuse (17-1, 5-0) with 23 points while Michael Carter-Williams scored the game’s final four points to give the Orange the victory. He also chipped in seven assists, four steals, and two blocks.
Russ Smith scored 25 points for Louisville (16-2, 4-1), which saw an 11-game winning streak come to an end.
The Cardinals had a 48-40 lead in the second half but could not hang on. Syracuse went on a 16-10 run to take a 66-62 lead with 4:37 remaining.
Louisville’s chance to tie in the final seconds was taken away when Carter-Williams stole a pass intended for Gorgui Dieng to seal the victory.
