Obama Formally Makes Nominations for Cabinet Posts

SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1358846856633Official White House Photo by Pete Souza(WASHINGTON) — Wasting no time getting down to business shortly after his second inaugural address, President Obama on Monday officially submitted the names of his nominees for the soon-to-be vacant posts of CIA director, secretary of defense, secretary of state and secretary of the treasury.

At the U.S. Capitol, the president signed a proclamation entitled “National Day of Hope and Resolve, 2013” to commemorate the inauguration.

While he was at it, Obama made four nominations to various Cabinet positions that the current occupants are leaving.

The president chose White House intelligence chief John Brennan to be director of the CIA; former Nebraska Sen. Charles “Chuck” Hagel to be secretary of defense; Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry to be secretary of state; and chief of staff Jacob Lew to be secretary of the treasury.

All nominees will have to be confirmed by the Senate before assuming their new positions.
