Showalter’s deal is a five-year extension that will keep him in Baltimore through the 2018 season. He took over the team back in August during the 2010 and has been a staple of the team’s turnaround since then. He is 196-185 since taking over the team, and while that may not be the most impressive record, the Orioles had been one of the worst team’s in baseball for over a decade.

In 2012, Showalter led the Orioles to a 93-69 record, their most since 1997. The Orioles also made the playoffs for the first time since 1997.

Meanwhile, Duquette was a surprise hire by the team last winter after spending 10 years away from baseball. Many of his personnel moves played a large role in the team returning to the playoffs and relevancy.
