Oscar Nominees to Be Announced Thursday Morning

The nominees for the 85th Academy Awards will be announced Thursday at 5:30 a.m. Pacific Time in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif.  Emma Stone and Oscars host Seth MacFarlane will do the honors.

Given how the awards season has played out to date, it’s a safe bet that Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln and Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty will pick up multiple nominations, including in the best picture category.

Other potential contenders for the Oscars’ top prize include Les Miserables, Argo, Django Unchained, Silver Linings Playbook, Life of Pi and Beasts Of The Southern Wild.

Daniel Day-Lewis will likely be a front-runner in the best-actor race for his performance as the 16th U.S. president, Abraham Lincoln, in Lincoln.  A few other names who could earn nods in that category: Hugh Jackman, for Les Miserables; Denzel Washington, for Flight; John Hawkes, for The Sessions; and Bradley Cooper, for Silver Linings Playbook.  

Jessica Chastain will probably be a contender in the best-actress race, for her role as a CIA agent in pursuit of Osama bin Laden in Zero Dark Thirty.  Aside from Chastain, the field is also expected to feature of least one of the following actresses: Silver Linings Playbook’s Jennifer Lawrence, Rust and Bone’s Marion Cotillard, Amour’s Emmanuelle Riva, and 9-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis of Beasts Of The Southern Wild.

ABC will air the Oscars on Feb. 24.
