Otter Calls For Elimination of Property Tax

  Published at

(BOISE) – Gov. Butch Otter called for the end of personal property taxes in his State of the State address at the Capitol Monday.

Under the plan, the state would reimburse lost funding for local governments and allow them to generate their own new taxes.

Otter said that it would give more flexibility to county governments to generate revenue through sales tax adjustments.

Property taxes produce about $141 million for the state annually.

Otter also called for a $2.8 billion budget for fiscal year 2014.
