Tom Brady threw three touchdown passes and the Patriots overpowered the Houston Texans 41-28 in their AFC Divisional Playoff game to advance to the AFC championship game.

Houston’s Danieal Manning nearly ran the opening kickoff back a touchdown, but was tackled within the 10 yard line and the Texans had to settle for a field goal.

Then, little-known Shane Vereen got it going by scoring a short rushing touchdown to give the Patriots a lead they would never relinquish. Vereen had two rushing scores and one receiving on the day.

Houston had hoped to get revenge for a 42-14 loss at the hands of the Patriots earlier in the year, but could not overcome New England’s offense. Texans quarterback Matt Schaub had 343 yards passing with an interception.

For Brady, it was his 17th playoff victory which is the most in NFL history. New England will face Baltimore next week for a trip to the Super Bowl.
