(NEW YORK) — The New York Mets have agreed to a one-year contract with free agent starting pitcher Shaun Marcum, pending a physical, according to ESPN.com.
The 31-year-old right-hander went 7-4 with a 3.70 ERA in 21 starts for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2012. He struck out 109 batters and walked 41 in 124 innings of work.
Marcum was on the shelf for more than two months last season battling elbow tightness. He also missed most of spring training due to discomfort in his shoulder.
Marcum is expected to join a rotation in Queens that includes Johan Santana, Matt Harvey, Jonathon Niese and Dillon Gee.
